Young and old consumers to show fastest growth in tablet uptake.eMarketer predicts the number of iPad users in the US will rise by over 90% this year to 53.2 million, as loyal users replace older models and new consumers purchase the device. This year, the iPad will continue to be in the hands of more than three-quarters of all tablet users in the country.That level of growth is down significantly from last year’s 143.9% jump, and will continue to decline; by 2015, the number of iPad users will rise by just under 12%. By then, more than one-third of all US internet users will have such a device.

Most of Twitter’s users emanate from mobile sources, and the social networker often derives more revenue from wireless devices than desktop platforms, CEO Dick Costolo said Wednesday at a conference, adding that people are now sending 400 million tweets daily. “We have an ad platform that already is inherently suited to mobile, even though we launched our platform on the Web and only started running ads on mobile recently,” Costolo said.

(NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released new insights on the U.S. tablet market from comScore TabLens™, its forthcoming monthly syndicated service providing insights into tablet ownership and usage. The report found that tablets have quickly reached a critical mass in the U.S. with 1 in every 4 smartphone owners using tablets during the three-month average period ending April 2012. The study also found that tablet users were nearly three times more likely to watch video on their device compared to smartphone users, with 1 in every 10 tablet users viewing video content almost daily on their device.

With tablet devices accounting for only 1% to 3% of magazine circulation, they’re more of a testbed for reader engagement than a way to achieve scale or efficiency, says OMD U.S. chief Alan Cohen. Nonetheless, “the tablet space is something everyone should be learning as much about as they can because it’s taking over these other media experiences like TV, e-mail, surfing the Web,” he says.
